Establishment of waste reception facilities at the new 1100 meter cruise quay in Copenhagen for sewage (blackwater and greywater). The local authorities appoval process is ongoing. Expected start of construction is 2011 and expected finishing of construction is March 2013.

The quay will have 4 berths for large cruise ships in turnaround.

Objective of commitment and its impact on the Baltic Sea (temporary, permanent, etc)

The objective of the committment is to contribute to a cleaner Baltic Sea, introduce permanent environmental sustainable alternatives to discharge of waste (sewage) at sea for large passenger ships.

What is needed for the commitment to be successful? (one-time action, continuous support or/and financing, support for a certain time period)

Final municipal decision is in place through an approval of a local development plan (no. 443) for the area.

The financing is in place.

Geographic scope of the commitment (Gulf of Finland, the Baltic Proper, the Belt Sea and the Kattegat, the whole Baltic Sea, etc)

Geographic scope is the whole Baltic Sea and the Sound (strait) between Denmark and Sweden.
