Oil Spill in Ice – Are We Ready?

As an ice-prone sea, the Northern Baltic Sea sets extra challenges to manage the oil recovery effectively. The Baltic Sea is also very shallow and has thousands of islands adding to the complexities in any recovery situation.
With increased marine traffic in the Baltic Sea are the industry players, governments, agencies and supporting organizations ready for the worst case scenario?
Shell and the Baltic Sea Action Group organises a seminar for key stakeholders from the oil industry, government, agencies, NGO’s and the academic society to start to address the current and future issues when responding to any oil spills in the region.
The seminar will be held 7-8 June 2011 at the Finlanda Hall in Helsinki. The seminar is by invitation only.
Media representatives are kindly invited to attend a session where the results of the discussions will be presented. The press conference will be held at the Finlandia Hall (Mannerheimintie 13, Helsinki) on 8 June 2011 at 14:00-15:30 hours Finnish time (EET). The discussion will be held in English.
