Integrated Satellite Applications for the Baltic Sea Region aroused interest in the workshop

Baltic Sea Action Group (BSAG) and the European Space Agency (ESA) arranged a workshop on Friday 14th September 2012 to help catalyse the creation of new sustainable services for everyday use.
Following an overview of the ESA’s Integrated Applications Promotion (IAP)  a number of thematic areas were addressed. Case studies presented included forest management, real-time sea water pollution monitoring and intelligent maritime traffic
Adjacent to the workshop a series of one-to-one discussions were held with some of the participants in which several promising ideas have emerged for possible IAP activities.
The 26 participants included end-users (e.g. Finnish Traffic Agency, Finnish Environment Institute), industry, research organisations and universities.
BSAG cooperates with ESA in environment, safety and transport issues related to the Baltic Sea and the region. ESA’s Integrated Applications Promotion (IAP) Programme supports creation of a wide range of services where the specific user needs can best be served by integrating satellite communication, satellite navigation and/or satellite remote sensing technologies with terrestrial systems.
