Commitment brought Finnish and Russian agricultural producers to knowledge exchange on environment-friendly agriculture

A Finnish-Russian information exchange day on environmentally friendly agriculture and its promotion was held at the University of Helsinki 27.2.2015.

MTK (The Central Union of Agricultural Producers and Forest Owners) and the Russian organization for agricultural producers Akkor made a public Commitment to BSAG at Baltic Sea Forum in St. Petersburg in April 2013. Their Commitment agrees on the exchange of information and experience to further environment-friendly agriculture with particular emphasis on technological solutions for nutrient and manure recovery.

The information exchange day at Helsinki University Viikki campus was attended by MTK and Akkor representatives, as well as researchers and students from both countries.

Among the topics were how the administration in both countries has been able to promote water conservation agricultural. Also best practices were discussed in the speech by farmers. The possibilities of research to improve nutrient use were addressed in the speeches by professors Sergui P. Melnikov and Vladislav Minin from St. Petersburg University of Agricultural Sciences and professors Laura Alakukku and Kari Hyytiäinen from the University of Helsinki.

The first part of the Commitment was carried out in April 2014, when the corresponding seminar and discussion was held in the St. Petersburg University of Agricultural Sciences (Pushkin). The co-operation continues also in the future.​
