The commitments by Eero Koivistoinen and Kymi Sinfonietta: Baltic Sea Blues –composition has a premiere on 14.11.2012
Eero Koivistoinen, a front-line Finnish jazz musician with a deep rooted love to the Baltic Sea, made a Commitment in 2010 to compose a work to raise awareness about the Baltic Sea issues. Kymi Sinfonietta ordered a work from him, in which he would himself be the soloist and the Sinfonietta also got enthusiastic about the possibility to use their core competence to help the Sea. Also Kymi Sinfonietta made a Baltic Sea Commitment 2011.
As the result we now have a magnificent five-movement multimedia work Baltic Sea Blues, in which the orchestra is joined by a solo saxophone, jazz pianist and bass, all working under a conductor. The music is precisely notated, but the jazz players also improvise, so no two performances will ever be the same. The performance will be accompanied by impressive visual material drawn from various sources on the Baltic Sea theme.
The premiere of the Baltic Sea Blues, will be heard 14.11.2012 in Kotka concert hall. The next day 15.11.2012 the multimedia piece will be heard in Kuusankoski Hall, in Kouvola. YLE RADIO 1 will capture the concert for the EBU –broadcast all over Europe. Before the both concerts there will also be short discussion lead by experts under the theme “ How are you doing, Baltic Sea?”
