Nutrient cycling, Commitment makers and clean shipping spotlighted by BSAG in the BDF and EUBSRP forums in Turku 3. – 4.6.2014

Baltic Sea Action Group participates to the joint forum of Baltic Development Forum and EU Baltic Sea Region Programme’s annual meeting in Turku 3. – 4. June 2014. BSAG brings Baltic Sea Commitment makers to the stage to tell about their actions towards sustainable nutrient management. Also St. Petersburg Initiative presents its work for cleaner shipping in the Baltic Sea.
On the joint forum Tuesday 3.6.2014 at 14.00 Mr. Nuritdin Inamov, co-chair of theSaint Petersburg Initiative, and Director in the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment of Russian Federation, introduces the work of St. Petersburg Initiativeto gain clean shipping in the Baltic Sea.
St. Petersburg Initiative was started by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev at St. Petersburg Baltic Sea Forum 2013. The SPI aims at bringing the force of Russian enterprises to work for the Baltic Sea. BSAG is in the SPI’s Executive Board as well as in the secretariat.  Also involved in SPI are Gazprom, Nord Stream, Carlsberg, Vodokanal, Helcom and the European Commission.
On Wednesday 4.6. at 11.00, the focus is on the nutrient cycling and the Commitment makers’ pioneer solutions for sustainable nutrient management.  Among others Raisioagro, UPM, Yara International, Fazer-Bakeries, Agrimarket andBiovakka tell about their actions for the Baltic Sea.  Mathias Bergman, the Secretary General of BSAG and BDF’s Lovisa Selander are moderating the session.
The week of Baltic Sea events brings to Turku decision makers and politicians from the Baltic Sea Region as well as Baltic Sea experts and researchers. Speakers at the Baltic Development Forum’s and EU Baltic Sea Region Programme’s joint forumare among others, Estonian Prime Minister Taavi Rõivas, Prime Minister of FinlandJyrki Katainen, Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja, Minister of Economic Affairs Jan Vapaavuori, Minister for European Affairs and Foreign Trade Alexander Stubb and Minister of the Environment Ville Niinistö. EU is represented by the Commissioner for Regional Policy Johannes Hahn. Present are also Chairman of the Committee on Industrial Policy and Innovations of St. Petersburg Maksim Meiksin and Chairwoman of BDF Lene Espersen.
