Scripophily.fi and Baltic Sea Action Group (BSAG) are looking for cancelled share certificates for auctioning for the benefit of the Baltic Sea.

CANCELLED SHARE CERTIFICATES TO HELP THE BALTIC SEA

Scripophily.fi, which specialises in collecting obsolete share certificates, is challenging companies to donate old, cancelled share certificates for an auction, the proceeds from which will be wholly used on work for the Baltic Sea.

Cancelled share certificates only have value as collectibles, but in countries like Germany, the popularity of collecting has elevated the trade in old share certificates to become a profitable business. The hobby is clearly becoming increasingly popular also in Finland.

The Baltic Sea is one of the most polluted seas in the world, and its critical condition demands quick action.

The purpose of the auction, to be organised in the autumn of 2010, is to help the Baltic Sea by collecting funds for BSAG’s Baltic Sea work which focuses on the most serious problems affecting the sea. Among prime targets are the damage caused by agriculture, seafaring, and hazardous substances.

“Companies can now support Baltic Sea work just by donating old, cancelled share certificates. Scripophily.fi will take care of all practical measures on behalf of the donating company, and no costs will be incurred for the company.

As well as to the Baltic Sea, the companies’ donations also do a favour to the growing hobby of collecting, by increasing the array and quantity of share certificates that interest collectors”, says Janne Pietikäinen from Scripophily.fi.

Collecting share certificates is a hobby akin to collecting stamps or coins, for example. Collectors usually pay around 30-300 euros each for interesting share certificates. “Share certificates that are cancelled and worthless to the company have collection value, and this ex-balance-sheet value they can donate to benefit the Baltic Sea. We are now searching for these often ornate share certificates in our archives”, says Ilkka Herlin, Chairman of the Boards of BSAG and Cargotec.

Depending on the donations, one or two auctions will be organised in 2010-2011. “This way, the donors, collectors and Scripophily.fi can together help improve the condition of the Baltic Sea by supporting the work of BSAG”, says Anna Kotsalo-Mustonen, one of BSAG’s founders and head of the foundation’s fundraising.

Das Unternehmen Scripophily.fi und die Baltic Sea Action Group (BSAG) suchen nach entwerteten Aktien, um diese zum Wohl der Ostsee zu versteigern.

ENTWERTETE AKTIEN HELFEN DER OSTSEE

Scripophily.fi, das sich auf die Sammlung von aus dem Verkehr gezogenen Aktien spezialisiert hat, fordert die Unternehmen auf, alte, entwertete Aktien für eine Versteigerung, deren Erlös in gesamter Höhe für die Arbeit zum Schutz der Ostsee verwendet wird, zu spenden. Die entwerteten Aktien verfügen nur über einen Sammlerwert, in Deutschland beispielsweise hat die Beliebtheit dieses Sammelhobbys jedoch den Handel mit alten Aktien zu einem rentablen Geschäftsbetrieb gemacht. Auch in Finnland gewinnt dieses Hobby an Beliebtheit.

Die Ostsee ist eines der weltweit am stärksten verschmutzten Meere und ihr kritischer Zustand erfordert schnelle Maßnahmen. Der Zweck der im Herbst 2010 stattfindenden Auktion besteht darin, der Ostsee durch die Sammlung von Mitteln für die Ostseearbeit der BSAG, die sich auf die schwerwiegendsten Probleme des Meeres konzentriert, zu helfen. Zentrale Maßnahmenziele sind die durch die Landwirtschaft, den Seeverkehr und gefährliche Substanzen verursachten Schäden.

„Die Unterstützung der Ostseearbeit verlangt von den Unternehmen jetzt lediglich die Spende alter, entwerteter Aktien. Scripophily.fi erledigt für das spendende Unternehmen alle praktischen Angelegenheiten und den Unternehmen entstehen auch keine Kosten. Außer der Ostsee tun die Unternehmen mit ihrer Spende auch dem wachsenden Sammlerhobby einen Gefallen, indem sie die Auswahl und Menge der für Sammler interessanten Aktien erhöhen“, erklärt Janne Pietikäinen von Scripophily.fi.

Das Sammeln von Aktien ist genauso ein Hobby wie beispielsweise Briefmarkensammeln oder das Sammeln von Münzen. Die Sammler zahlen für interessante Aktien üblicherweise 30 – 300 Euro pro Stück. „Für ein Unternehmen wertlose, entwertete Aktien haben einen Sammlerwert und diesen außerhalb der Bilanz liegenden Wert kann jeder zum Wohl der Ostsee spenden. Wir suchen jetzt für unser Archiv nach solchen, oft auch recht schönen Aktien“, erzählt Ilkka Herlin, Vorstandsvorsitzender der BSAG und von Cargotec.

Je nach Spenden werden ein bis zwei Auktionen in den Jahren 2010-2011 veranstaltet. „So tragen die Spender, Sammler und Scripophily.fi gemeinsam zur Verbesserung der Situation der Ostsee bei, indem sie die Aktivitäten der BSAG unterstützen“, stellt Anna Kotsalo-Mustonen, eine der Gründerinnen der BSAG und für die Finanzierung der Stiftung verantwortlich, fest.
