Strengthening the water expertise in forestry

Water-related issues are often overshadowed by other priorities in the forestry sector and receive only limited attention in training programmes. Guidance materials for water protection measures are scattered across different sources. This makes them difficult to access and apply in practice. According to forestry professionals, there is a clear need to strengthen water expertise in the field. This requires practical materials that are accessible, easy to use and directly applicable in everyday work.

Centralized educational resources on one website

The Water Expertise project lays the groundwork for sharing guidance materials designed to prevent water impacts from forestry. Relevant materials will be gathered on a single platform. This will make it easy for forestry professionals and others working in the field to find and use them.

Short training videos for reducing water impacts

The project will produce concise, research-based training videos to help forestry professionals deepen their water expertise. The videos will be created in collaboration with researchers and forestry professionals. The goal is to provide compact, practical content that offers concrete solutions and is easy to apply in daily work.

The produced video materials and website will be widely promoted to forestry professionals and vocational education providers. The aim is to ensure that the platform and its content become well known and broadly adopted across the Finnish forestry sector.

A new model for integrating water expertise

The project strengthens water expertise in forestry and supports a broader shift within the industry. The long-term goal is a model in which some forestry professionals specialize in water-related planning, while others gain a sufficient level of understanding through tailored materials that can be consulted during everyday tasks.
Water Expertise develops both the materials and a platform needed to support this foundational level of knowledge.
