Organisation: Det Norske Veritas (DNV)

Time: 1/21/2010 – 2/10/2011

A Establish overview of total emissions from sea transportation in the Baltic Sea area based on available data and projections of future development within shipping.

B Develop marginal abatement curves for sea transport in the Baltic sea, based on information above and work done by DNV valid for total world fleet.

C Describe future scenarios including consequence analyses of preferred solutions (short term for new and existing ships vs long term, in particular focus on LNG) and their effect on emissions.

D Together with relevant bodies including ports/governments develop a model for regulatory/financial incentives which can catalyze and promote a faster transformation to a future with significant less emissions from shipping.

E Build awareness and motivation for change through active engagement with stakeholders in the years to come, to trigger enablers for sustainable change towards cleaner fuel, efficient ships, and less emissions.

The objective of the Commitment is to achieve:
* a permanent reduction of emissions from shipping
* awareness among ship operators & maritime stakeholders on the cost efficiency of technological and operational means
* impact on future regulating mechanisms in Baltic, promoting sustainable shipping models which coastal shipping can act as examples be exported to the rest of the world.
