Regeneratively grown barley supports Anora’s climate goals and enhances soil health
Anora is making a Baltic Sea Commitment to Baltic Sea Action Group (BSAG) for the years 2026–2030. Anora commits to working closely with its contract farmers to advance regenerative farming, reduce agriculture-related environmental impacts, and offer consumers even more sustainable products.
IN PROGRESS
Commitment made in 2025
DURATION
2026–2030
Anora will actively participate in the Carbon Action corporate platform together with BSAG’s researchers and other key stakeholders.
COMMITMENT GOALS
1
Increasing the share of regeneratively grown barley
Anora commits to promoting regenerative agriculture with the target of increasing the share of regeneratively grown barley to 30% of its grain-based spirits by 2030.
2
Updating contract farming criteria
Anora will revise the criteria for contract farming of regeneratively grown barley during the commitment period. The aim is to enhance the environmental impact of cultivation for the benefit of the Baltic Sea and the environment, and to align Anora’s practices more closely with BSAG’s criteria for regenerative grain farming.
The development areas include:
- Incorporating regenerative cultivation plans into the program
- Diversifying crop rotations
- Defining a minimum level of soil cover
- Transitioning toward minimum tillage
- Specifying fertilizer practices and clarifying threshold values
- Increasing biodiversity
3
Training
Anora will provide farmers growing regeneratively cultivated barley with the training and support needed to ensure they have sufficient knowledge to meet regenerative farming criteria.
Training themes will cover regenerative farming practices, such as biodiversity measures and precision farming.
The training will be designed and delivered in cooperation with BSAG.
4
Other contract farmers
Anora will communicate about regenerative farming to its broader network of contract farmers through multiple channels, for example, events, trade fairs, newsletters, and the producers’ extranet.
Communication activities will be planned together with BSAG. The goal is to increase farmers’ awareness of the benefits and practices of regenerative farming and to encourage a gradual transition toward regenerative methods.
5
Consumer awareness
Anora commits to increasing consumer awareness of regenerative agriculture as part of its sustainability communications. Activities will be planned in collaboration with BSAG.
The aim is to make the principles of regenerative agriculture visible and easy to understand through measures such as:
Cooperating in consumer events and campaigns to explain the significance of regenerative practices in food production
Communicating about regenerative farming on packaging, websites, and social media
Using storytelling to highlight farmers’ experiences and the impacts of different cultivation methods on soil health and the Baltic Sea
6
Participation in the work of Carbon Action network
Anora will take an active role in development activities carried out on the Carbon Action platform. Specific themes will be defined during the commitment period and may include developing shared practices, measuring and verifying impacts, and strengthening value-chain collaboration models
7
Stakeholder communications
Anora will communicate about the work and results of the Carbon Action network as part of its general corporate communications, including on its website, in social media, press releases, and reports.
As part of the commitment, Anora will support BSAG’s Baltic Sea work with an annual donation throughout the commitment period. The donation will be confirmed in a separate donation letter.
Progress on the commitment will be reviewed annually together with BSAG.
Continuously improving soil health is an affordable investment in the future. The broad toolkit of regenerative farming provides suitable methods for every farm to develop cultivation practices and enhance both soil condition and productivity.
