Enhanced production of safe recycled nutrients from sewage sludge
Organisation: Gasum Oy
Time: 3/17/2017 – 6/30/2020
Description:
Gasum is the biggest producer of biogas in the Nordic countries. The Gasum Group’s 12 biogas plants are located in Huittinen, Honkajoki, Kuopio, Oulu, Riihimäki, Turku and Vehmaa, Finland, and Jordberga, Katrineholm, Lidköping, Örebro and Västerås, Sweden. In addition, Gasum has a 50% shareholding in Vadsbo Biogas in Sweden. Gasum also produces biogas with its partners in Espoo, Kouvola and Lahti, Finland. Gasum carries out waste treatment and biogas and organic fertilizer production.
Gasum is committed to develop a concept for efficient nutrient recovery and production of safe nutrient products from digestate of sewage sludge origin. The developed concept will enable nutrient recovery (N, P) from the liquid fraction as well as from the solid fraction of digestate. The concept will provide new recycled nutrient products and enable safe nitrogen recycling for industrial and agricultural purposes as well as produce a solid product which is free from harmful organic compounds.
The developed concept will provide a solution for sustainable enhanced treatment of sewage sludge and other biomasses by combining biogas production and nutrient recovery technologies and thus reduce the risk of nutrient leakage into the Baltic Sea.
