Science communication about Carbon Action
The purpose of Carbon Action’s science communication is to increase public understanding of the importance of soil health and regenerative agriculture. By using a variety of communication methods, we support science-based decision-making and help accelerate the adoption of sustainable solutions across society.

Making Carbon Action research visible, inspiring, and impactful
The goal of this project is to make the internationally significant Carbon Action research accessible and influential. We create science communication that supports societal change by translating research into clear, engaging, and motivating content.
Communication is one of the most effective tools for change. When research-based knowledge is presented in approachable ways, it becomes easier to understand—and more likely to lead to action.
Our communication outputs include visual materials, videos, and other easy-to-use formats, designed separately for decision-makers, authorities, and citizens. We also consider the target groups’ existing knowledge and information needs.
This work supports climate and nature goals and contributes to the implementation of the EU Soil Directive.
Communicating internationally significant Carbon Action research
The Carbon Action project explores, among other topics, carbon storage in soil, the role of biodiversity in carbon sequestration, and how farming practices can adapt to a changing climate.
Carbon Action is a unique long-term collaboration where farmers, researchers, and companies work together to develop innovative farming practices that support food production, the environment, and the health of the Baltic Sea. Carbon Action has been active since 2017. So far, the project has included approximately 50 sub-projects and involved around 100 researchers working in parallel.
Using the research data collected, we aim to support systemic change across the food system.
BSAG has already achieved strong results through close cooperation with farmers and companies. With this science communication project, we further strengthen understanding among citizens, authorities, and decision-makers through effective and accessible communication. Through communication, we influence policy tools, decision-making processes, and consumer choices—while also improving the opportunities for farmers and businesses to develop their operations and increase resilience.
The impact of our communication is monitored through media coverage, reach, and stakeholder feedback. We also assess how communication outputs have supported decision-making. The continuity of long-term science communication is planned in collaboration with the Carbon Action network.
Carbon Action achievements at the Maa ratkaisee event
In December 2025, we organized the Maa ratkaisee (The Soil Makes the Difference) event to present and celebrate the achievements of Carbon Action so far. The event, together with related stakeholder and media communications, helps strengthen the impact of the project and brings new research-based insights into public discussion.
Events like this create space for cutting-edge research to be highlighted and offer opportunities to influence practices, operating cultures, and decisions.
The concise and easy-to-follow presentations by researchers and farmers at the Maa ratkaisee event are available on our YouTube channel, and a recording of the full event can also be viewed. All contents are in Finnish. The Carbon Action science communication project contributed to the funding of the Maa ratkaisee event.
We must continue bringing decision-makers together. Change is possible. The long-term viability of our planet is often overshadowed by more immediate crises—but we must keep trying. Without sustained effort, change will not happen.
