PRESS RELEASE: Gasum makes two new commitments to BSAG

Gasum has made new commitments to the Baltic Sea Action Group (BSAG). The commitments relate to the development of recycled nutrients and the promotion of the liquefied biogas for maritime fuel.
Gasum has made new Baltic Sea Action Group (BSAG) commitments to improve the status of the Baltic Sea.

Gasum is committed to the enhanced production of effective recycled nutrients for agricultural and industrial use from digestates of biogas produced from sewage sludge. Gasum employs a new concept for the enhanced treatment of sewage sludge and other biodegradable waste and promotion of nutrient cycling as well as for reducing the risk of nutrient leakage into the Baltic Sea

Gasum is also committed to promote the circular economy by utilizing biodegradable waste generated on board ferries in biogas production. With this concept Gasum promotes the use of liquefied biogas in maritime transport, reducing air emissions from vessels. The Gasum subsidiary Skangas is in charge of the development of the biogas market and the sales of liquefied biogas to customers.

Gasum has also previously made commitments to the Baltic Sea Action Group (BSAG) relating to the development of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) market. Founded in 2008, the BSAG is an independent non-profit foundation based in Finland. The BSAG aims to restore the ecological balance of the Baltic Sea.
