DAVA FOODS FINLAND’S BALTIC SEA COMMITMENT

News Corporate Collaboration

Finland’s leading egg producer, DAVA Foods Finland Oy, gives a Baltic Sea Commitment to the Baltic Sea Action Group (BSAG). The company commits to improving nutrient cycling, carbon sequestration, and soil health in chicken fodder farming.

DAVA Foods Finland joins the Carbon Action business platform as the first company in the Finnish egg industry. With its commitment to the Baltic Sea, DAVA Foods Finland introduces regenerative agriculture practices in fodder grain production. These practices store atmospheric carbon in the soil, improve soil health and strengthen biodiversity, simultaneously improving the profitability and viability of the company’s contract farms.

The development of nutrient recycling for chicken manure is part of the commitment. The regenerative farming methods now started will cover a significant part of the company’s egg production volume. Egg producers are Finnish family farms that often grow their fodder and use the manure of the farm’s chickens for fertilization, and to some extent, renewable fuels for heating.

In cooperation with its contract farmers and BSAG, DAVA Foods is committed to developing and launching egg products that have a reduced environmental footprint, such as the impact on the Baltic Sea and the climate. The production is already cage-free.

“We are excited about the new partnership with BSAG. Carbon Action is a great project because it gives companies and farms the right tools to advance responsibility. Without such cooperation, the development would not be possible from such a broad perspective,” describes Juha-Petri Jokinen, CEO of DAVA Foods Finland.

“It is great that Dava Foods wants to support the introduction of regenerative farming to family farms and the continuous improvement of their operations. The planned increase of payment for production that reduces the environmental footprint reflects a commitment not only to Baltic Sea and climate work but also to learning together with the producer”, says Michaela Ramm-Schmidt, CEO of BSAG.

DAVA Foods Finland Oy is the leading company in Finnish egg production, and its Kultamuna eggs are produced in Finland. DAVA Foods also produces different kinds of egg products for restaurants and the food industry. The company has about 60 Finnish contract producers. DAVA Foods Finland Oy is owned half by Finnish Munakunta Co-operative and half by DAVA Foods Holding A/S, which is an industrial egg company group operating in the Baltic Sea region.
