Turn sustainability goals into action with a Baltic Sea Commitment

Every Baltic Sea Commitment includes an annual financial donation to support BSAG’s work. The Commitment is a carefully designed partnership model that helps companies strengthen their sustainability efforts while creating measurable environmental impact. 

Each company determines the amount of its donation, which remains confidential. Annual donations have typically ranged from €20,000 to €100,000, depending on the company’s size and the scope of the partnership. 

BSAG supports partner companies throughout the entire Baltic Sea Commitment. Our experts provide guidance in setting objectives, designing effective actions and monitoring progress. 

Our support is based on extensive expertise in Baltic Sea protection, the water impacts of agriculture and forestry, and corporate sustainability. We help companies identify practical, science-based solutions that advance both their sustainability objectives and the ecological health of the Baltic Sea. 

Throughout the partnership, companies have access to BSAG’s multidisciplinary experts, opportunities to participate in our events and networks, and the chance to co-develop new solutions with other businesses, researchers and stakeholders. 

Progress and achievements are communicated jointly through both the company’s and BSAG’s communication channels. This may include announcements of new Commitments, updates on milestones, and stories about innovative solutions developed during the partnership. At the end of the Commitment period, we communicate the key outcomes and overall impact achieved. 

Each partner company also has a dedicated page on the BSAG website presenting the objectives of its Baltic Sea Commitment and the progress made towards them. Each objective is assigned a clear status (Started, Completed or Planned) to provide transparent updates throughout the partnership. 

BSAG’s communications and media specialists also support partner companies in showcasing major achievements and impactful results whenever appropriate. 

Progress is reviewed jointly by the company and BSAG at least twice a year. The frequency and format of collaboration are adapted throughout the partnership to reflect the company’s objectives and needs. 

For partnerships involving active development work of new solutions or operating models, meetings may take place considerably more often. In addition to scheduled review meetings, companies have ongoing access to BSAG’s experts and are invited to participate in BSAG’s events and partner network activities.

A Baltic Sea Commitment typically includes three to five concrete objectives addressing the company’s most significant impacts on the Baltic Sea. However, the number and content of the objectives are always tailored to the company’s industry, starting point and sustainability ambitions. 

BSAG’s experts help identify the areas where the company can have the greatest impact and develop objectives that are both ambitious and practical to implement. 

Improving the state of the Baltic Sea requires long-term commitment. Because eutrophication has developed over decades, restoring the sea also takes time. 

A minimum three-year Commitment gives companies the opportunity to plan, implement and evaluate meaningful actions while ensuring measurable impact. The long-term partnership also creates opportunities to develop new solutions together with BSAG’s experts

The Baltic Sea Commitment is designed primarily for companies whose operations or value chains have an impact on the Baltic Sea. 

It requires a genuine commitment to advancing sustainability and taking concrete action to reduce the environmental impacts of the company’s own operations and value chain. 

The Commitment is developed together with BSAG’s experts. We help your company define clear, strategic objectives based on its most significant Baltic Sea impacts and broader sustainability goals. 

Every Baltic Sea Commitment also includes an annual financial donation to support BSAG’s work. This funding enables impactful projects, scientific research and the development of practical solutions to reduce eutrophication and other water-related environmental impacts.
