Nestlé Finland

Nestlé Finland has worked together with the Baltic Sea Action Group since 2021 to promote regenerative farming in the production of its Finnish raw materials. Through its Baltic Sea Commitment for 2024–2026, the company is deepening this work in particular on the Carbon Action business platform.

Collaboration in a seashell

The cooperation between Nestlé Finland and BSAG began in 2021, when the company made its first Baltic Sea Commitment to produce its Finnish raw materials in an even more environmentally friendly way. Since 2021, Nestlé has trained the Finnish farmers who grow the raw materials for its PILTTI products in regenerative farming and has offered them coaching and small-group activities. In 2024 the company renewed its commitment for 2024–2026 and continued in the Carbon Action platform, where it develops regenerative farming together with other actors in the food chain. In December 2024, PILTTI, a Nestlé brand, was the first in Finland to introduce baby foods made with root vegetables sourced from farms using regenerative farming practices.

The Baltic Sea Commitment for 2024–2026 is Nestlé Finland’s second and focuses on regenerative farming and on cooperation on the Carbon Action business platform. Nestlé supports and encourages the farmers of the Finnish vegetables it uses to adopt regenerative farming, brings regeneratively farmed raw materials into its products and communicates its regenerative farming targets to its partners together with BSAG.

Commitment objectives

  1. Supporting farmers in regenerative farming

Nestlé supports and encourages the farmers of the potato, carrot, parsnip and onion it uses in Finland to continuously improve their operations by continuing farmer coaching and co-development, taking into account the individual needs of the farmers and farms. The aim is that all potato, carrot, parsnip and onion farmers participating in the programme meet the “engaged” level of Nestlé’s internal criteria and continue to pursue the “advanced” and “expert” levels.

Nestlé develops and introduces the monitoring of results on farms together with the best experts and farmers. The aim is that by 2026, 100 % of the Finnish carrot, potato, onion and parsnip used at the Turku factory are regeneratively farmed.
