Fazer has taken an active part in protecting the Baltic Sea since 2013, when the company made its first Baltic Sea Commitment. As a large milling grain buyer, Fazer develops sustainable and regenerative grain farming together with its contract farmers.

Fazer‘s cooperation with BSAG began in 2013, when Fazer made its first Baltic Sea Commitment and developed its farming program together with its contract farmers. The aim of Fazer’s farming program is to curb the eutrophication of inland waters and the Baltic Sea, to protect biodiversity and soil vitality, and to reduce the use of chemicals in farming. In its second commitment, Fazer joined BSAG’s Carbon Action platform and included carbon sequestration in the soil as part of its farming program. In 2023 Fazer made its third Baltic Sea Commitment, which focuses strongly on sustainable food production and especially on regenerative farming. As a large milling grain buyer, Fazer has the opportunity to influence the state of water bodies both through its own operations and together with its partners.

Baltic Sea Commitment
The Baltic Sea Commitment for 2023–2028 is Fazer’s third and focuses strongly on advancing sustainable food production, especially regenerative farming. Fazer advances its commitment by developing its principles of sustainable grain farming, training its contract farmers and personnel, and communicating about regenerative farming together with BSAG.

Fazer develops the principles of sustainable grain farming defined in its farming program to reflect the latest research on regenerative farming, and places even greater emphasis on promoting biodiversity based on research from the Carbon Action business platform.
Fazer develops digital verification solutions suited to regenerative farming together with its stakeholders.

Training in regenerative farming
Fazer develops training material and an operating model on regenerative farming for its contract farmers, making use of the regenerative farming e-learning schools published in Finland and Sweden.
Fazer trains the personnel working with grain-based raw materials and products on a regenerative agriculture course.

In its communications, Fazer highlights even more broadly its own work on regenerative farming to curb the eutrophication of the Baltic Sea and other water bodies and to mitigate climate change.
Fazer communicates about the work of BSAG and the Carbon Action platform to consumers, farmers and other stakeholders, and is an active member of the Carbon Action platform, promoting regenerative farming.
